Summary:

CPS Unit No. 115, subunit 6, located at Metropolitan Hospital in Welfare Island, New York, subjected CPS men to experiments in frost bite.

 

Dr. Kurt Lange directed this OSRD project on frostbite, examining prevention of gangrene subsequent to frostbite.  This involved examining tissue damage after exposure to severe cold in pressure chambers.  Four men housed at Metropolitan Hospital during the period of the experiment, October through December in 1945, worked half time when not engaged in the experiment.
