    9 C.O.’s are serving as ‘guinea pigs’ in experiments at the University of Minnesota to determine international standards regarding the minimum amount of vitamins necessary to sustain healthy adult life. Results should be valuable in making possible better use of available supplies, especially during the postwar period. Summary:

CPS Unit No. 115, subunit [34], located at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, subjected men to experiments in convalescence.

 

Dr. Roy S. Bigham, Jr. directed this OSRD project conducting convalescent experiments to examine the metabolism of protein in normal persons with varied diets.   Sponsored by Johns Hopkins Hospital, the project worked with two men, Hubert Thomas and Philip Trout from May 30, 1945 through June 20, 1946.  The Brethren Service Committee provided oversight to the project.
