CPS Unit No. 115, subunit 26, located at New York Hospital in New York, New York, subjected CPS men to experiments studying the effects of bed rest.
Dr. David P. Barr and Dr. John E. Deitrick directed this OSRD project at Cornell University Medical College and New York Hospital studying the metabolic effects of prolonged bed rest. One to two men at a time were in bed with a cast extending from their toes to above the waist for six weeks. Sponsored by Cornell University Medical College and New York Hospital, the project began in July of 1944 and concluded in February of 1946, under the oversight of the American Friends Service Committee.
