CPS Unit No. 115, subunit24, located at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, subjected CPS men to experiments studying malaria.
Dr. Allan M. Butler directed part one of an OSRD project developing anti-malarial therapy sponsored by the Harvard Medical School at Massachusetts General Hospital. Working with twenty to twenty-seven men at a time in September 1943, he utilized COs at Camp No. 32 at West Campton, New Hampshire, under the oversight of the American Friends Service Committee.
Dr. Fuller Albright and Dr. E. C. Reifenstein Jr. directed part two of the project which examined metabolism in convalescence. They looked at the effect of diet changes in protein intake and the metabolic rate on the storage of protein tissue as determined by the nitrogen and phosphorous balances. This took place at Massachusetts General Hospital, working with one man at a time.
