CPS Unit No. 115, subunit 1, located at the California Institute of Technology at Pasadena, California, subjected COs to experiments studying malaria.
Part one of this OSRD project on malaria sponsored by California Institute of Technology ran from September 1945 through February 1946. Dr. J.B. Koepfli served as director. One man volunteered at a time for the experiment.
Dr. David B. Tyler directed part two of the project at California Institute of Technology. This OSRD project focused on fatigue with biomedical and psychological changes during prolonged wakefulness. Twelve men were assigned at a time, and were kept awake for a 112-hour period by manual activity and recreation.
