Dr. Alf S. Alving directed this OSRD project conducting clinical tests of anti-malarial drugs sponsored by the Department of Medicine, University of Chicago. He worked with five to fifteen COs at a time at Manteno State Hospital under the oversight of the Brethren Service Committee. The men were serving at that time as ward attendants and technicians at the hospital, working with mental patients, who were also involved in the study. (Eisan p. 459, Sibley and Jacob p. 144)
